I have been struck down by some pathogenic illness and I am so tired but it is the first day of National Novel Writing Month and I just happen to have a miraculously undeniably workable outline for THE VAMPIRE SHIFT, the novel that is the reason for this newsletter’s existence. The one that has its beginnings in either 2017 or 2020, depending on how you look at it — beginnings from NaNoWriMo. So like, as well as this event being an excellent way to bang out a draft, there’s definitely a sense of tradition there too. A personal tradition. I half-hate the word tradition because I have cultural trauma about it, but what is the point of life if you do not create your own things to replace those that suck? So I’m making myself say it.
This is an arguably long-winded, context-providing way of saying I’VE STARTED THE FIRST DRAFT OF THIS NOVEL. FUCK.
You can follow my NaNo progress on my profile page here.
I’m not gonna show any of it yet, but damn I’m excited.
And so tired.
Last time, I uploaded something Upsetting because I’m a bitch like that, so here is some fun non-sad miscellany from/about the universe of this book.
Here’s an OT3 (triad relationship) quiz/meme courtesy riessene on Tumblr:
And while we’re on the RANDOM CUTE SHIT train, here is some of the most grand cru cheese from my writing docs:
their phone lockscreens/home screens are each other, in some way
RAE: candid of Sasha and Killian hanging out beneath an oak tree in autumn, turning their heads toward her as she takes the photo, mid-speech and mid-laughter
SASHA: photo from the walk home after a Halloween costume party in which the three of them are dressed in pirate/wild west garb, taken in rosy gold dawn. they're pressed together and look somewhat silly and very happy together.
KILLIAN: photo from a sound check, taken from side stage by Felix. Sasha's cracked a joke and he and Rae are smiling/laughing.
Happy November, friends! Thank you for reading.
